“Does going to college mean becoming someone new blog?”

Does Going to College Mean Becoming Someone New?"' Let’s review the developmental nature of the college experience and the impact it has on individuals' identities. Kevin Davis reflects on his own college journey, recounting the challenges, growth, and self-discovery he encountered along the way. Through introspection and observation, Kevin Davis examines how college influences one's sense of self, values, and aspirations. He considers whether the process of going to college inherently entails undergoing a fundamental change in identity, or if it simply facilitates the exploration and refinement of existing traits and beliefs. Ultimately, the Kevin Davis invites readers to contemplate the ways in which higher education shapes personal development and the formation of identity.

I was impressed that Kevin Davis took the opportunity to describe how it felt to be an undergraduate student. Initially the first sentence resonated with me as far as feeling like an outsider, but as I read and realized more, the information was so necessary. Entering an English major in college is challenging, because what your professors ask of you in that professional setting is far more than what you know or understand, but the principal factor I learned was to be open-minded and be willing to change and with that alone you are on track to becoming successful in your major.

Kevin Davis describes how he felt about the different changes he went through when coming to college. Davis tells in intricate detail how this change was not easy to him on pg.1 “…between maintaining my identity and accepting another. I found I didn’t like the someone new I was being asked to become”. Davis used his experience as a chance to conduct a study or an experiment to see if people change when going to college and how this change could possibly affect them. This was a perfect opportunity for him to help other have some sort of explanation if they found themselves being burdened with similar thoughts or questions as seen in pg.3 “By looking at these studies and at my experience, then I can begin to make some conclusions about how students have to adapt their writing and thinking to succeed in college’s unfamiliar academic discourse community.”
